Happy Hour in a Tree

First time experiencing happy hour from a crow's nest, and it was awesome. In Akumal, Mexico there's a restaurant right on the beach called La Buena Vida that has swinging chairs, hammocks, and adult tree houses! I didn't even know those existed, but now that I do, I'm happy to say I've been in one. I can officially check that off my bucket list (even though it wasn't even on there until the day before when I found out about it).

So what's so special about this happy hour festivity? Well, you order your drinks (pictured on the left/above) on the ground, then proceed up the tall ladder (pictured below). Adults over the age of 16 only, as it states on the red signs, since it might be slightly dangerous for rambunctious niños. (Lucky for my sister and me, this meant our pesky little brother had to leave us alone for while.) At the top, you are greeted by a stunning view of the vibrant turquoise ocean through the surrounding palm trees (pictured below).

When you hear a whistle, assume it's for you and look down to see your waiter waving at you. And to your delight, you will also see your drinks in a pail (pictured below) teathered to the top of your tree hut hideaway. It's then your job to hoist the bucket up towards your sky-high table. Be careful not to spill your drinks on the way up, or hit any heads on the way down while raising and lowering the bucket. Finally, you get to enjoy a refreshing drink while your cares fade away in the horizon and in the sound of each wave meeting the shore.

This is why I enjoyed this particular seating arrangement so much. I felt like I was actually in a Zac Brown Band song because "I think I might have found me my own kind of paradise." I highly recommend visiting La Buena Vida if you ever find yourself lost in Akumal. I am definitely going back and doing that all over again before I have to head back home.

"My mind is on a permanent vacation. The ocean is my only medication, [and I'm] wishin' my condition ain't ever gonna go away" -Zac Brown Band ("Knee Deep")
