Sicily, Italy: What You MUST See
The first port of call on our Mediterranean cruise was Sicily, Italy. We ventured around this cultured island on a Hop-On-Hop-Off Bus (you can find those bad boys pretty much any city you go to in Europe and all the major tourist-y cities in America). This was a great way to see a majority of Sicily in such a short amount of time, but my favorite part of the day (and pretty much everyone else's too) was watching the bell tower.
When in Sicily, Italy, you can't miss...
The Bell Tower of the Cathedral of Messina.
At 12pm everyday, Sicily's main attraction comes to life as the bronze people and animals roar, ring the bell, and dance in circles along the clock. For about 10 minutes, visitors, travelers, and passerby-ers all stop and marvel at this elaborate show.
After the show, we were so intrigued by the tower, that we just had to climb to the top and see what was happening behind the scenes. We were also rewarded for our hike up to the top with a beautiful view of the city, ocean, and our cruise ship.
Everyone in the crowd had there phones out and pointed up to record the action. This picture cracks me up, but then again, I was doing the same exact same thing, just with my camera.
It was H-O-T in Sicily which gave me a great excuse to get some more gelato (I probably ate my own weight in gelato by the time I came home from Europe).
We had a great view of our cruise ship from the tower! It was so fun climbing to the top and looking out over the ocean and city.
