Ancient Greece

"Corinth, Greece"

"...whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." 1 Corinthians 10:31

Corinth was incredible! I had been listening to a few podcasts and sermons covering I Corinthians leading up to this trip and it really put this biblical city into perspective for me. I loved learning all about God's love for us, Paul, and the church he was writing to in Corinth before visiting what's left of the city today. It was an amazing experience to say the least.

"Temple of Apollo in Corinth"

While there, the tour guide did a good job of covering the Christian background of Corinth along with the other significant historical events about the site. It's cool to think that God used this location, and Paul, to speak to so many people in ancient time and still today. I definitely learned a lot from reading about the Corinthians and from visiting Corinth.

Although Corinth was just a detour on the way to our main destination, Nafplio, it was definitely the highlight of the trip for me!

"An Olive Tree at the Temple"

A Fun (and maybe gross) Fact about the Corinthians: They had actual "bench warmers" back then. This ancient city was one of the first to have public restrooms. The toilets were made out of marble, and as you could have guessed, it was a little cold to sit on, especially in the winter months. To solve this frozen-butt problem, the city hired people to sit on the toilets while they were not in use to keep the seat warm for the next person who needed to go to the bathroom. How funny!

"Nafplio, Greece"

The original capital of Greece, Nafplio, is a seaside town on the Argolic Gulf. The Palamidi castle sits up on a hill overlooking the town with a great view of the ocean (pictured above). We got to tour and enjoy the view from this archaic site (pictured below, click to enlarge pictures). I felt like a true Greek princess... Just kidding! But it was still fun.

On this school-planned trip, we stopped for a full Greek meal in a traditional taverna including many small dishes of various Greek foods, like saganaki (fried cheese), bread with tzatziki sauce, dolmades (stuffed grape leaves), and many others!

Nafplio is a cute, little beach town with fun shopping, unique-looking streets, and photogenic flowers and signs (pictured below). It was a full and adventurous day visiting these two historically-rich locations in Greece.
