Hawaiian Rollercoaster

With some pictures it really is all about being at the right place at the right time. What better place is there to be then in Maui, Hawaii on the beach soaking up the sun, at any time, am I right?

Maui is, without a doubt, my favorite vacation destination. From seeing fish to eating fish, there's nowhere I'd rather be. Likewise, I consider the ocean to be my happy place. As I'm sure many can relate, there's nothing quite like being on a golden coast with a beautiful blue ocean to stare at and enjoy.

This may be why this image is one of my favorite pictures I have ever taken. Not only does it look cool with the milky wave dancing to the ocean's rhythm on top of a black volcanic rock, but it also reminds me of everything in this world I love most! (Well, almost everything if we're counting people.) Isn't that what makes a bunch of pixels smushed together something worth looking at and treasuring?

I think a photograph is most successful when it can transport you to a different time and place where you can relive old memories and daydream about places you wish to visit again. I think of the song Hawaiian Rollercoaster Ride from the Lilo and Stitch movie when I look at this picture which is why I named it Hawaiian Rollercoaster. Conveniently for me, the chaos and aesthetic appeal within this photograph also resembles the rushing feeling you get while being on a roller coaster.

Captured on a Nikon D3100 with a manual-focus zoom lens I borrowed from school and was using for the first time (which added to the difficulty of successfully taking this picture). Taken at a 100 ISO, f/4, and a 1/2,500 shutter speed. I snapped at least a couple hundred images and gave up about an hour of my "relaxing" beach day in order to capture this one image. The things I do for photography.

Where is your happy place? (Mine is, without a doubt, anywhere near a beach.) Comment below!
